| Q: |
Why buy
a used-oil-fired heater? |
| A: |
-
FREE HEAT!
-
Limited liability on waste oil disposal.
-
Elimination of disposal cost.
-
Easier, cleaner and safer system for
handling, storing and elimination of waste oils.
-
Federal law states that the generator
of used oil is responsible for the waste forever; however, if you burn
it on site, your liability ends.
-
Even if an approved and licensed transporter
hauls your waste oil, you are still liable for any cleanup or removal action
incurred. Burning your oil on site eliminates your liability.
-
When underground storage tanks with capacities
of 1100 gallons or less are used for heating oil, they are exempted from
the Federal UST Regulations.

| Q: |
What are the
laws and regulations regarding used-oil-fired heaters? |
| A: |
The Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) allows for the used of used motor oil to be used for fuel in heaters.
The requirements are that the oil must be generated on site (as in a service
station or car dealership service area), or the oil can come from "do-it-yourselfers"
(people who change their own oil and turn it in for recycling). Heaters
must not exceed 500,000 BTUH.
Some local laws and codes may apply.
